What data is in Mine Census’ database?

Mine Census only collects data from mining companies that are in production, not pure exploration companies. The data collected comprises of mining production data, costs of production and some financial data. The data is mostly collected from quarterly, half yearly and annual production and financial reports.

What are the limitations to the data?
The data in Mine Census is only as good as the companies who report the information. Some companies report very detailed information and some provide minimal information. Mine Census displays the last eight quarters (two years) of information about each company and their mining operations. It should be noted that companies do change how they report and what data they report, meaning some parameters are not consistently available over the most recent eight quarters.

Why do you display only two years’ of data?
Mine Census only displays the most recent two years’ (eight quarters) of data, this keeps the information current, not many people are interested how a mine or company was performing over two years ago. It helps in keeping graphs look less cluttered by not showing many quarters of data. It also allows us to maintain a manageable sized database with good data access and retrieval speeds. We do keep older data archived on a server and as a service can access this information for you.

How often is data updated?
Mine Census aims to update data within 48 hours of it being released.
